RAYMOND BAXTER O.B.E. Founder of The Association of Dunkirk Little Ships The Association of Dunkirk Little Ships is sad to announce the peaceful death of Raymond Baxter O.B.E. today at about 1400Z. As an owner of a Little Ship, Raymond was the stimulator of a Commemorative Return to Dunkirk in 1965 and one of the joint founders in 1966 of the Association together with John Knight JP and Commander Charles Lamb. He became Commodore and then Honorary Admiral, a post he retained to the end. Raymond was a well-known broadcaster and flew Spitfires in the Second World War. At Goodwood two weeks ago he was able to provide the commentary for a fly-past of Spitfires in memory of his great friend Ray Hanna who flew a Spitfire over the Fleet on it’s qunquennial return to Dunkirk. It is typical of his impeccable timing that he chose Battle of Britain Day to depart this life. Our sympathy goes to his family and grandchildren. End
