As part of the filming for the forthcoming BBC 2 documentary on the Little Ships, James (Lofty) Christmas was filmed and interviewed aboard DLS Fermain V on the River Thames between Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament. Lofty's exploits aboard Sea Scout Boat Minotaur are well documented and the basis of a fictional account by Author Percy Westerman in his book 'Sea Scouts at Dunkirk'. Lofty talked about his admiration for Tom Towndrow who was both the skipper of the Minotaur and Mortlake's Scout Master. Lofty also spoke about being issued with a 'long Lee Enfield' and 600 rounds of ammunition. He vividly recalled the events at Dunkirk and insisted that those who did not return should never be forgotten.
It is believed that Lofty is the last surviving RN Veteran who crewed a Little Ship to Dunkirk as a part of Operation Dynamo. (April 2010)
