The Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology on behalf of the Southampton Heritage Federation is delighted to announce the Southampton Maritime Festival, taking place on Sunday 5th and Monday 6th May 2013 at the Ocean Cruise Terminal, Southampton to celebrate the arrival of the Steam Tug “Challenge” following her major restoration, partly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The lead organisation will be the Dunkirk Little Ships Restoration trust.
2013 will see the Little Ships return to Ipswich for their Annual Commemorative Cruise. A service will be held dockside at Ipswich Haven Marina on Sunday 26th May commencing at 1100. All are welcome.
Chatham Waterfront is the place to be on the Saturday, 6 July, when yachts and sailing vessels of every kind will join together for the Medway River Festival. The Festival consists of onshore and water activities, with the aim of a family day out. The festival will be held in Rats Bay, Chatham. There will be a historic vessel sail past where we would hope the ADLS will be well represented. The ADLS exhibition stand will be present onshore during the day.
Following the unavoidable cancellation of the event in 2012, we are hoping as many Members as possible will support the 35th Traditional Boat Rally. More details will be posted in due course on this site and at http://www.tradboatrally.com/ .
With the support once again of Thames Motor Yacht Club and Weybridge Mariners a weekend of events on the lower Thames will be held to honour the Veterans of past conflicts.
Saturday will see Veterans from the South Atlantic conflicts joining the Little Ships. Whilst on Sunday we will pay tribute to the Veterans from the Second World War.
More details will be posted nearer the time.
